A note from Studio Owner, Emily:

The Durham Yoga Studio opened its doors in May 2021, born from a vision to create something more than just a place to take classes. From the beginning, my hope was to build a space where people could come home to themselves - a place of connection, community and shared presence (which seemed particularly welcome after 2020!)

Over the years, what started as a dream has grown into a living, breathing community — a space with its own heartbeat. It’s been humbling and beautiful to witness friendships formed, stories shared, and the quiet moments of reconnection that happen on the mat each day.

Our studio offers a wide range of classes and practices, each designed to support your unique journey — whether you're seeking strength, stillness, or simply space to breathe. What’s at the essence of a yoga practice itself is establishing, reestablishing a sense of connection, and the studio offers a place to do that.

Thank you for being part of this community — whether you've just found us or have been here from the start. You are welcome here, exactly as you are.

With gratitude,
Emily

Are you new to the studio? Here are some FAQ’s

  • Yes, absolutely! We’re a beginner friendly studio & we recommend joining a Mellow Flow class, or Slow Flow and Restore to start with.

  • Our studio doors will lock 1 minute past the official class start time, we’re located on the second floor, so we won’t be able to let you in once we start. Please aim to arrive at least 5 minutes before the class begins! No one needs that added pre-yoga stress!

  • We want you to feel as comfortable as possible. Wear something that you can easily move/ stretch in. We also recommend going barefoot!

  • No, you don’t have to be flexible to do yoga! Our vibe is that you go at your pace. There’s a common misconception that you have to be flexible to do yoga and although over time your flexibility may improve, coming to yoga isn’t about being flexible!

  • We have everything that you need in studio, but you’re very welcome to bring your own mat if you have one!

  • Absolutely! We have a changing room to leave coats and bags as well as a designated cubicle to change in.

  • If you arrive at the studio after 6pm or on a weekend, you can park in the spaces right outside the building but you will need a permit.

You can register for an e-permit by emailing hello@thedurhamyogastudio.com but you must wait for a reply before parking there so we can confirm your registration.

Weekdays before 6pm, there is plenty of street parking around Crossgate & Allergate. If you’ve never been to the studio before, we’d recommend allowing plenty of time to find a space.

  • If you have an injury, we would highly recommend visiting your physiotherapist or your GP before attending a class and making the teacher aware so that we can suggest any appropriate modifications.

We are located centrally in Crossgate.

Crossgate Centre, DH1.

We’re in the same building as JP Physio, Durham Smile Clinic & Stepping Stones Nursery!
